Step 1: Gather required documents
Evidence that you are a holder of permanent residence status for a minimum of five (5) years or married to a Belizean for a minimum of one (1) year.
Note for persons applying with permanent residence status refer to the requirements section that speaks to the limitations of travel outside of Belize.
Step 2: Submission of application
Submit your application at any Immigration Office authorized to accept citizenship applications. See where to apply for office locations.
The accepting officer will schedule an interview date for yourself and the referees. Please note that the interview will be held at the office where the application is submitted.
A receipt of acceptance will be given to you with the assigned file number for your application, referred to as BNA. This BNA number is required when inquiring into your application status.
Step 3: Interview with Immigration
The interview is scheduled within two weeks of submission of application.
You are required to bring your BNA acceptance receipt and your passport.
Your referees must accompany you to the interview and they must bring their respective identification.
Step 4: You will be informed of approval of application
Your application will be vetted by the Nationality Department in accordance to the Belizean Nationality Act. You will thereafter be contacted on the outcome of your application.
Step 5: Make Payment
On approval of your application, you are required to visit an Immigration Office to make payment of BZ$300.00.
The Immigration Office will inform you on the date and location of a subsequent swearing-in ceremony where you will receive your Belize Nationality Certificate.
Step 6: Attend swearing-in ceremony
On the day of the swearing-in ceremony you must bring your proof of payment and your passport.
