Documents You Need

  • Correctional Fluid not accepted on form.
  • Applicant’s signature must be consistent with signature on identification document provided.
  • Original documents must be presented at time of submission along with copies.
  • Supporting documents must be in good condition and legible.
  • Ensure names of applicants and/or parents/grandparents are consistent on documentation provided .
    • Any change in name must be supported with legal documentation. E.g. adoption certificate, deed poll, etc.
  • Any document not in the English language must be translated by a certified translator
  • Application form must have been completed within six months prior to submission.
  • Form with errors or scratches may be rejected
  • An affidavit is necessary to clarify errors in spelling of name.
    • Affidavit to be completed by individual whose name is to be clarified.
    • Only in the case of minor children can parent complete affidavit.

Citizenship through Registration

Documents to be submitted

  8. Declaration of Renunciation

Citizenship Application Form

All sections of the application form must be completed.

If your spouse is also applying for Citizenship, he/she must also submit an application form.

Photographs

4 passport size photos need to be submitted with the following specifications

  • size of 2 x 2 inches
  • white background
  • facial front view
  • no sleeveless

Four photos need to be submitted for accompanying spouse and each child.

Proof of Permanent Residence

You must present evidence of your Permanent Residence status in the form of

  • A Permanent Residence Card or
  • A Permanent Residence stamp in your passport

Spouse or child applying for Citizenship must also meet the Permanent Residence requirement.

Passport

You must present all passports held since acquiring Permanent Residence status.

Spouse and child applying for Citizenship must also provide their passports.

Police Record

You and accompanying dependents (spouse and children 12 years of age and above) must submit an individual police record from Belize.

The police record is only valid for 6 months from date of issue.

Medical Certificate and Tests

The Medical Certificate

The medical certificate refers to the Preliminary Medical Examination Form that needs to be completed by a Licensed Medical Practitioner here in Belize.

The applicant and accompanying dependents (spouse and children) must submit an individual Preliminary Medical Examination Form.

The Preliminary Medical Examination Form must be signed and stamped by the examining physician. 

HIV and VDRL Tests

The HIV and VDRL Tests must be submitted by applicant and accompanying dependents (spouse and children 12 years of age and above).

Referees’ Identification

You are required to identify two Belizeans who will serve as references.

The referees must

  1. be a born Belizean
  2. be acquainted with you for a minimum of 5 years
  3. provide proof of identification in the form of  a
    1. Voters Identification Card or
    2. Belize Passport or
    3. Birth Certificate & Social Security Card

Declaration of Renunciation

Only Indian Nationals are required to submit a Declaration of Renunciation of Citizenship.

Birth Certificate

You may be required to submit a birth certificate if any inconsistency exists with your name, sex, date of birth or place birth on any of your supporting documents.

Marriage Certificate

If your spouse is also applying for Citizenship, you must provide your marriage certificate.

  1. A school letter or a letter from the Ministry of Education if you are homeschooling. 

Authorization for child to be included in Citizenship Application

  1. Letter of authorization from parent not making submission

        or

  • You must present your marriage certificate issued by the Vital Statistics Unit

If married outside of Belize

  • Your marriage certificate must be authenticated or apostilled by the issuing authority.

Spouse’s proof of Belizean Citizenship

You must present your spouse’s proof of Belizean Citizenship in the form of a

  1. Belizean passport
  2. Belizean birth certificate and a photo identification, either a
    1. Voter’s Identification Card or
    2. Social Security Card
  3. Belize Nationality Certificate and a photo identification, either a
    1. Passport
    2. Voter’s Identification Card
    3. Social Security Card

Passport

You must present a valid passport from country of origin.

Police Record

You must submit a police record from Belize or country where you have resided for the past 6 months or more.

The police record is only valid for 6 months from date of issue.

Medical Certificate and Tests

The Medical Certificate

The medical certificate refers to the Prelminary Medical Examination Form that needs to be completed by a Licensed Medical Practitioner here in Belize.

  • Passport, if applicant does not have a passport:
    • Below 18yrs- Birth certificate must be apostille by issuing authority
    • 18yrs and above– must provide a form of photo identification.

Supporting documents to be submitted
  • Original Birth certificate of applicant: identifying parents, translation if not in English language.
  • Copy of Belizean parent birth certificate. If parent is a naturalized Belizean, nationality certificate must be submitted.
  • Copy of Belizean parent passport or form of photo identification
    • Belize Voter’s ID, Belize Social Security Card,
    • or any other official country ID
  • Death certificate if parent deceased
  • Marriage certificate of applicant if marriage title appears on applicant’s identity document
  • $40.00 fee

If you were born outside of Belize before Independence Day (21 September 1981) and one of your grandparents is a Citizen of Belize.

  • Original Birth certificate of applicant: identifying parents, translation if not in English language.
  • Copy of Belizean grandparent Birth Certificate. If grandparent is a naturalized Belizean nationality certificate must be submitted.
  • Copy of Belizean grandparent passport or form of photo identification
    • Belize Voter’s ID,
    • Belize Social Security Card, or
    • Any other official country ID
  • Death certificate if grandparent deceased.
  • Marriage certificate of applicant if marriage title appears on applicant’s identity document
  • Copy of parent birth certificate establishing relation to Belizean Grandparent
  • $40.00 fee

If you are a woman and was married before Independence Day (21 September 1981) to a Citizen of Belize.

  • Original Birth certificate of applicant: translation if not in English language.
  • Applicant photo identification
    • Any official country ID
  • Belizean Husband Birth Certificate. If husband is a naturalized Belizean nationality certificate must be submitted
  • Belizean Husband Passport or photo identification
    • Belize Voter’s ID,
    • Belize Social Security Card, or
    • Any other official country ID))
  • Marriage certificate
  • $40.00 fee
