The Ministry of Immigration – Refugees Department invites applications for one (1) vacant position Project Coordinator (PC) for the Refugees Department’s Border Presence Project
  • Salary: $28,800 per annum
  • Contract: 14 months
  • Location: Belmopan, with travel across Belize

The Ministry of Immigration – Refugees Department is seeking a dynamic and committed Project Coordinator to lead our Border Presence Project. This initiative plays a vital role in ensuring that refugees and asylum seekers at Belize’s borders receive timely, accurate information and the protection they deserve.

1. Why This Role Matters

As Project Coordinator, you will be at the heart of protecting human rights and supporting vulnerable communities. You will lead outreach efforts, coordinate with national and international partners, and ensure that those seeking safety in Belize are informed of their rights, responsibilities, and available services.

2. Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, and monitor the Border Presence Project’s roving strategy and public information campaign.
  • Coordinate field activities and deploy Refugees Department staff to key border areas.
  • Develop and share multilingual materials on asylum processes, rights, and integration pathways.
  • Foster partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and international bodies such as UNHCR, IOM, and OAS.
  • Organize community workshops, stakeholder briefings, and outreach events.
  • Manage project expenditures and prepare detailed monthly and annual reports.

3. Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Migration Management, Project Management, Social Work, Law, Political Science, or related field.
  • Experience: At least 2 years in migration, refugee/asylum-related work, or social work.
  • Skills & Assets:
      • Knowledge of international refugee and human rights principles (asset).
      • Proficient in written and spoken English & Spanish.
      • Strong leadership, training, and workshop facilitation skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Willingness to travel to rural areas, represent Belize internationally, and work flexible hours.
